CyberCX Academy

Are you Australia’s next top cyber security expert?

Malicious cyber activity is a threat to Australian businesses and individuals. While technology is part of the solution, the most critical need is for skilled and motivated people to help secure our communities.

That’s why we created the CyberCX Academy.

The CyberCX Academy is a paid, permanent full-time training opportunity designed to launch your career in cyber security. No prior experience is necessary. If you want to embark on a rewarding, meaningful career, then you’re in the right place.

The CyberCX Academy program provides you with a blend of formal training and practical on-the-job experience alongside a 1,400-strong workforce of cyber security professionals.

The CyberCX Academy launched in July 2022 and has already trained more than 200 Academy Associates who work in our offices across the Australian cities of Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Hobart, Adelaide and Perth, and in the New Zealand cities of Christchurch and Auckland.

The CyberCX Academy is our entry level program for cyber security specialists

The CyberCX Academy is a six-month program. It consists of a four-week cyber security fundamentals course, 10 weeks of practice specific training and 12 weeks of experiential learning (supervised hands-on experience). The program is full time and pays a competitive salary.

The CyberCX Academy provides a pathway for anybody seeking a career in cyber security – from university and TAFE graduates, to school leavers, to people seeking a career change or re-entering the workforce.

No matter where you come from, if you share CyberCX’s mission of securing our communities, then we want to hear from you.

CyberCX Academy placements all come with a permanent employment contract. At the conclusion of the program you will move into a position within the broader company based on your area of specialisation.

Read more below to learn about the different pathways within the Academy program.

The CyberCX Academy offers two pathways

For the people who thrive on client-facing relationships, tech talk and advice

You will be working with our clients to identify their security needs and provide advice on cyber best practices. Your advice will help protect organisations from cyber threats and empower them to thrive in a changing world.

Consulting practices:

For those who want to get their fingers dirty in code and tech tools

You might be developing and implementing security solutions, or our could be testing solutions, monitoring client systems, providing advice on system vulnerabilities or investigating real cyber incidents.

Technical practices:

Day in the life: Practice profiles

CyberCX Academy Associates come from diverse backgrounds that reflect the communities CyberCX serves. Many of our best Academy Associates are people who have started a career elsewhere and made a switch to cyber security, bringing experience from nursing, hospitality, project management, retail, teaching and other professions.

Explore what a day in the life of our Associates looks like and let it inspire you to become a part of Australia’s next generation of cyber security experts.

Strategy and Consulting

Ailie Houlihan | Consulting pathway

As an Associate Consultant in Strategy and Consulting, I work in a team that provides strategic and advisory services to private and government clients. A typical day could include conducting cyber security reviews, drafting cyber security strategies, or developing materials that keep a project running. I help with client workshops that enable us to understand the current state of client security operations and draft recommendations to uplift and improve their security readiness.

Managed Security Services

Brennan Harvey | Technical pathway

As an Associate Consultant in Managed Security Services (MSS), I work to protect our customers’ digital assets. In MSS we are broken down into two parts – an operations function that monitors our customer environments 24/7 in a Security Operations Centre (SOC), and an engineering function that designs, builds, operates and maintains security infrastructure for customers. As a SOC analyst I monitor, triage, and respond to cyber security incidents for our customers.

Who are we looking for?

People as diverse as the community we serve

You don’t need to be a cyber expert. We are on the lookout for people who want to learn and grow in a constantly evolving industry that’s combating criminal activity. We’re more interested in who you are, where you have come from, and where you want to take your career. If you’re new to this world, we’ll teach you everything you need to know on the go.

You’ll be a great fit if you can demonstrate that you are:

Results focused
A good communicator
