IRAP Assessment – Genetec

Challenges

  • The Australian Federal Government requires stronger assurances to protect sensitive citizen data gathered through Genetec’s public safety technology solutions.
  • To join the supply chain, Genetec had to prove its public safety solution met government’s stringent security protocols.
  • To demonstrate Genetec’s rigorous security pedigree, Genetec underwent an Infosec Registered Assessors Program (IRAP) assessment carried out by an independent evaluator.

Outcome

  • Successful completion of an IRAP assessment by an Australian Government endorsed assessor, CyberCX.
  • Successful demonstration of Genetec’s robust cyber security posture and operational maturity, with flow on effects for its channel partners in Australia.
  • Adoption of Genetec’s cloud-based solutions by Australian government agencies and critical infrastructure providers suited for their complex environments.

Genetec

Genetec is a leading technology provider of physical security solutions. It develops open-platform software, hardware, and cloud-based services for the physical security and public safety industry.

Genetec’s flagship product, Security Center, unifies IP-based video surveillance, access control and automatic licence plate recognition into one solution.

Headquartered in Montreal, Canada, Genetec is a global innovator, serving government and enterprise organisations in over 159 countries.

The challenge

Genetec wanted to provide its cloud-based physical security solutions to Australian government agencies and critical infrastructure providers to strengthen their ability to protect people, property, and data.

However, to participate in this supply chain, Genetec needed to demonstrate that a robust set of security controls were in place for their system and services, to aid in protecting sensitive government data.

To provide this level of assurance, Genetec required an IRAP assessment to be performed by an independent assessor on behalf of the government.

The solution

CyberCX conducted a comprehensive IRAP assessment of Genetec’s suite of cloud solutions, evaluating security controls against the latest Information Security Manual (ISM).

CyberCX worked closely with Genetec’s Montreal headquarters, working across time zones and geographic locations to lead interactive workshops, conduct technical reviews, perform configuration tests, and deliver security demonstrations.

The in-depth review involved a thorough examination of product documentation and rigorous evaluation of operational effectiveness, all aimed at ensuring full compliance with stringent cyber security standards and regulatory requirements.

By collaborating closely with subject matter experts from Genetec over a four-month period, CyberCX delivered an independent, detailed evaluation –validating Genetec’s security practices and identifying strategic areas for enhancement.

The outcome

By partnering with CyberCX to conduct an independent audit of its cyber security operations, Genetec completed a successful IRAP assessment to OFFICIAL:Sensitive. This reflects Genetec’s ongoing commitment to meeting security requirements set by the Australian government.

Genetec’s comprehensive security compliance program aligns with numerous industry regulations and standards, ensuring robust protection and adherence to best practices. These include GDPR, TX-RAMP, ISO 27017, ISO 27001, SOC, and CMMC.

With this assessment, Genetec can now deliver its cloud-based physical security solutions to Australian government agencies and critical infrastructure providers, strengthening their ability to protect people, property, and data.

The assessment demonstrates Genetec’s robust cyber security posture and operational maturity, which also creates new business opportunities for Genetec-authorised channel partners, who can now provide government agencies with a trusted suite of physical security solutions.

This achievement reinforces Genetec’s commitment to delivering trusted physical security solutions that enhance situational awareness, optimise decision-making, and strengthen cyber defences.

“Genetec was pleased to engage CyberCX as the independent auditor for this IRAP Assessment. CyberCX’s professionalism and detailed assessment of Genetec’s software development capability is commensurate with the detailed audit of our business.”
