Ban on paying hacker ransoms is inevitable, but not yet: Labor

A ban on businesses buckling to ransomware demands could be introduced in two years after industry opposition convinced the Albanese government not to include the measure in its revamped cybersecurity strategy.

Instead, the government will co-design with industry a new reporting regime that forces companies to disclose when they come under cyberattack, while discouraging them from paying ransoms.
